It sounds like the fold is happening before it gets to the drum, so I would guess it's a paper feed clutch that's sticking. Make sure you have a gap between the faces. Something in the paper path would cause this also.
This problem happens from either the upper or lower cassette. the paper is not wrinkled but folded in the middle (front to rear). It is as if the registration roller is late. I cleaned the Reg. clutch and sensor, and the cassette clutches. I also put new paper separation rollers thinking that the paper may be double-feeding.
I also see a line about two or three inches going from left to right on the paper (front to rear on the copier), and the image is below that line, as if the scanner and the image are late. Both, the fold and the line happen on the same paper.
I normally associate a fold on the paper with a registration roller that is late. But, I also associate an image that is too low on the paper with a registration roller that is early (or sticking)... Or a scanner that is late.
If memory serves the reg clutch is the same as the feed clutch, you could swap from tray 2 to test. But with all the fun routing the wires and popping covers and whatnot I'd have all new clutches for that area. I've replaced enough that I just carry them all for the feed/reg and replace as a group so I don't have to look at 3030's and curse them.
I am still having this problem of folding the paper.
I notice that the fuser pressure roller had developed flat spot and put a new one but it did not make any difference.
I also cleaned and swapped the Reg.Clutch with the feed clutch to no avail.
I did check and cleaned the Reg.Sensor. This is what I suspect may be erratic causing the problem.
I remember the last thing I did before the problem started was put a new drum. It was not an OEM but a generic. Would that make any difference?
1) "I also put new paper separation rollers thinking that the paper may be double-feeding"<---- Is this all 3 rollers and spring reverse clutch or have you only replaced the sep roller? An entire 4 part set is less than $10 and worth any headache.
2) Since you mentioned the drum, did you double check your part numbers and your work in that area? Doubt it would cause a problem. Does this happen on single sided copies? or duplex only? or jam with a code? or does it make it all the way out of the machine? If it exits I would check the interchange gate to the left of the fuser (under the scanner unit). You can usually hear the paper slamming into that gate.
3) How many copies are on the machine? The paper may have cut a groove in the plastic somewhere and created a burr of some sort. Got a parts machine to swap units...
I despise these things. Panasonic let the fax guys design a copier and this is what they came up with. Remove nine pieces to get to one...great!
Try replacing the actuator and spring for the registration sensor. Those things can get flighty. Could also be the reg clutch if it folding so severely .
it might sound stupid, I had a 2310 did the same thing to me. It happened because there was a tinny piece of paper in the paper path, and sometimes it pushes the paper against to machine and made it jam. Have you try open the door while the machine is running and see if it folds the paper before the drum? this will isolate the fuser. another thing is try using the bypass and see if it folds the paper.
